Gushegu Municipal Assembly operationalized its ultramodern Livestock Market

The Gushegu Municipal Assembly through support from its development partner, Ghana Developing Communities Association (GDCA) with donor support from EU & IFD has constructed an ultramodern livestock market in Gushegu.
The project is part of the organisations objectives to boost livestock trade and pastoralism along the Eastern part of the Northern Region which is largely the trade corridor for livestock activities in the country.
The project has facilities such as withholding pens, loading ramps, pavilions for traders,a mosque (yet to be completed), a mechanised water system, offices etc.
The project which was awarded in 2019 was commissioned on February, 2021 and opened for trade on Friday, April 2,2021.
The market is one of largest livestock trading centres in the Country and first of its kind in the Eastern Corridor of Northern Region. It’s largely patronised by traders from Accra,Kumasi, Bawku,Yendi,Tamale,Techinman etc.
The market has the potential to boost the IGF of the Assembly by 400% of its previous weekly collections.
The Assembly is therefore reviewing its revenue mobilisation strategies in order to maximize the needed potentials from the operationalization of this new livestock market.
Consequent to this, all staff of the Assembly led by the Hon Municipal Chief Executive, Musah Issah and the Municipal Coordinating Director, Abdul-Razak Yakah, the Municipal Finance Officer and a host of heads of units /Departments were at the market on Friday to supervise and assist in revenue mobilisation.
The traditional authorities and the Livestock Market Management Committee (LMMC) were highly instrumental to the realisation of the project and the successful operationalization of market on Friday.
The Municipal Assembly in the coming weeks will add on some facilities in the market to facilitate the activities and comfort of the traders, and thus boost its earnings.
