REPORT ON FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING OF THE GUSHEGU MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY HELD ON THURSDAY, 16TH MAY, 2024

REPORT ON FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING OF THE GUSHEGU MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY HELD ON THURSDAY, 16TH MAY, 2024 AT THE GUSHEGU MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY HALL.

On Thursday, 16th May, 2024, Gushegu Municipal Assembly held its first ordinary meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Gushegu Municipal Assembly at the Gushegu Municipal Assembly Hall. 

The meeting followed the inaugural meeting of the Assembly which was held to inaugurate the Assembly for its ninth session and a special meeting to elect a new Presiding Member which was held on 12th February and 19th February, 2024 respectively. The meeting was well attended by all thirty-six (36) Hon. Assembly Members from across all the electoral areas in the Municipality as well as some Heads of Decentralized Department of the Assembly, staff of the Assembly, Development Partners and Agencies of the Assembly. 

The Municipal Coordinating Director in the person of Mr. Osman Musah, mentioned that the Hon. MCE had travelled to Tamale to attend a meeting with the Regional Minister at which all MMDCEs in the region were expected to attend. He further noted that it was unfortunate that the two important meetings had coincided. He went further to read the speech of the Hon. MCE to the audience present. 

In the Hon. MCE’s address as was read by the MCD, the Hon. MCE expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the Hon. Assembly Members for successfully electing a new Presiding Member to preside over meetings of the General Assembly. He also extended his congratulatory message the new elected presiding Member in the person of Hon. Ahmed Abdulai Osman for his successful election to the enviable position of a Presiding Member. 

 The Hon. MCE’s address focused on the Finances of the Assembly, Education, Road & Electricity, Agriculture, Ghana Productive Safety Net Project, The Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) Project and the Gushgu Water, Sanitation and Hygiene system. The Hon. Assembly Members fully participated in the meeting by expressing their respective views and opinions on the measures they felt if implemented would help transform the developmental prospects of the Gushegu Municipality. 

The Municipal Police Commander in the person of Thomas Tulasi who was also present in the meeting expressed that the security situation in the Municipality was relatively tranquil over the period and therefore called on all the Hon. Assembly Members to keep sensitizing the constituents on the need to be law abiding and not take the law into their own hands. 

The meeting was brought to a successful adjournment with a short remark by the MCD where his thanked all Hon. Assembly Members for their time and active participation towards the meeting.
